Love Came Down

Love came down to a cattle stall long, long ago as a young mother tenderly caressed her darling newborn.

Love came down as angels sang their glorious song from the heavens above to shepherds’ listening ears below.  Luke 2:13-14

Love came down as young parents take their tiny Treasure to the temple for dedication, naming Him Jesus.  Simeon, being a righteous man, held the Child and proclaimed without hesitation that his eyes had finally seen his salvation. Luke 2:25-30

Love came down as the precocious boy sat among scholars, having an understanding beyond what anyone thought possible.  Luke 2:47

Love came down as Jesus stood in the muddy Jordan waiting to be baptized as the Holy Spirit descended down like a dove and with a voice from heaven saying, “You are my Son whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”  Luke 3:22

Love came down as Jesus went into the wilderness fasting and praying for forty days and nights.  As He was tempted by the devil, He used the Word of God in every reply and the devil departed. Luke 4:1-13

Love came down as Jesus being empowered by the Spirit began His ministry and news spread about Him throughout the countryside. Luke 4:14

Love came down as Jesus walked dusty roads going from town to town teaching because that was why He was sent.  Luke 4:43

Love came down as Jesus, anointed by the Holy Spirit and power, went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil for God was with Him.  Acts 10:38

Love came down as Jesus sat with His disciples for their last supper telling them the bread represented His body, the wine His blood and telling them to take it in remembrance of Him.  Luke 22:19-20

Love came down as Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, drying them with a towel and telling them that if He did not wash their feet, they had no part with Him.  John 13:5-8

Love came down as Jesus agonizing in the garden prayed that if it was His Father’s will to take the cup from Him to do so, but nevertheless, to do His will.  Matt. 26:42

Love came down as darkness reigned and those who came for Jesus took Him away to stand before Pilate. Luke 22:53

Love came down as soldiers beat our Lord’s back with unmerciful force causing blood to run down.  Mk. 15:15

Love came down as soldiers stripped Jesus, mocking Him, plucking His beard from His loving face and pressed a crown of thorns on His sweet head.   Is. 52:14; Mt. 27:27-31

Love came down as soldiers led our Savior like a lamb to the slaughter and pounded nails into His hands and feet.

Love came down as the Father laid on His Son the  sin of us all as unimaginable pain ravaged His body.  Is. 53:6

Love came down as loved ones looked with mourning and grief on the One pierced.  Zech. 12:10

Love came down as Jesus writhed in pain and looked down from the cross with compassion upon those who mocked Him and said, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”  Luke 23:34

Love came down as darkness covered the land and temple curtains were split from top to bottom as Jesus committed His Spirit into the Father’s hands.   Mk. 15:38-38

Love came down as the Father watched His precious Son’s body being taken down from the cross and loved ones wrapping His Body in a linen cloth and placed Him in a borrowed tomb.  Luke 23:53

Love came down as a tomb was empty with only a linen cloth lying while Jesus walked the road unrecognized.   Mk. 16:12-13

Love came down as our Lord and Savior triumphed over death, hell and the grave!

Death had been swallowed up in victory!  Death had lost its sting!  The grave could no longer hold him!  Satan could not stop Him.  Christ had risen from the grave!  He was indeed alive!  Hallelujah!  He’s alive!  1 Cor. 15:55

Christ Arose!

by Robert Lowery

Verse 1:

Low in the grave He lay, Jesus my Savior!

Waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!

Verse 2:

Vainly they watch His bed, Jesus my Savior!

Vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord!

Verse 3:

Death cannot keep his prey, Jesus my Savior!

He tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord!

Refrain:

Up from the grave He arose!

With a mighty triumph o’er His foe

He arose a victor from the dark domain

And He lives forever with His saints to reign

He arose!

He arose!

Hallelujah!  Christ arose!

Prayer:  Father, I give you praise for sending Jesus to die for our sins.  Thank you for every miracle performed.  Thank you for every lesson learned.  For every life that was changed from then until now.  I ask you now Father, for souls to be saved and more lives to be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
