Cody McClure Speer (12/1/91-04/02/05) A Beautiful Grandchild in the Arms of God...

The Well of Refreshing

Isaiah 12:3:  With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

In loving memory of Cody McClure Speer on his birthday (December 1, 1991).

Cody was the son of Doug K. Speer and Diana Lin (Mrs. Mark Simmons). He had a sister, Cassidy Leigh Speer; a step-brother and sister (Nathan & Shelby).  He was the grandson of Ken & Elaine Speer and Ron & Ann Hopkins.  Cody had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and tasted of the Living Water before he departed this life on April 2, 2005 at the age of 13 years old .  During his short life, God used him to touch many many people and we all miss him tremendously....

Scripture Reference: John 4:4-30

It was a day like any other when the Samaritan woman went to draw water from the well.  A Jewish man was sitting there and she never dreamed that He would strike up a conversation with someone like her.  She never imagined in her wildest dreams that He would speak to her anyway since she was a Samaritan whom the Jews did not associate.

Oddly, the man even asked her for a drink. She was taken aback and probably looked around to make sure it was her that He had spoken to. The woman asked the man how He could ask her for a drink.  He told her that if she knew the generosity of God and who it was that asked her for a drink, she would have asked Him and He would have indeed given her Living Water.

In her confusion, the woman asked the man how He was going to get this Living Water since the well was deep and He had nothing to draw with.  The man told her that “everyone who drank the water from that well would be thirsty again, but whoever drank the water He gave would never thirst again.”

Indeed, He told her that the water He gave would become a spring of water welling up to eternal life.  The desperate Samaritan woman said that she wanted the water that He spoke about so that she wouldn’t have to keep coming back to the well to draw water.  She still didn’t understand His meaning because the water this man Jesus spoke of was of a spiritual nature and Living Water that gives life.

Jesus told her to go and call her husband and then come back, but she said she had no husband.  He told her that what she had said was true because she had had five husbands and the man she had was not even her husband.

After a little while the woman assumed that Jesus must be a prophet because after all He had told her things that there was no way He could have known otherwise.

Jesus said that He was the Messiah, called Christ and the woman got so excited that she left her water pot and ran back to town to tell everyone that this man had told her everything that she had ever done. I believe when she left her water pot, that symbolized that she was ready to leave her past behind.  She wanted nothing more to do with her old life which held her bound and she was ready for a new life flowing with the Living Water.

The woman was changed forever because Jesus gave her a drink from the spiritual well.  There was no need for Him to dip into the water at the well she had always drawn from because He had an ample supply of the Living Water that only He could give.

The woman ran to tell all who would listen because she was filled with joy.  She had been with one man after another probably feeling filthy inside, but was made clean and pure as the little girl she once was.  She ran with new life and vigor because she had the Living Water on the inside of her.  She was so excited and had to go and tell somebody in a hurry!

The life she always dreamed about she then had in Jesus the Living Water.  The stream of Living Water poured into her life and she was a new woman and she no longer had to search for something that she couldn’t find in living with one man after another.  The Living Water gave her what she was thirsty for.

Nothing else mattered after Jesus changed her.  She probably thought she didn’t have a thing to live for, but suddenly everything changed. She no doubt had many regrets thinking back upon her life and the many beds she had slept in, but she could put the past behind with the Living Water bubbling up inside.

The Living Water Jesus spoke about is for us today dear friends and from the Well that will never run dry. This Living Water isn’t from a stagnant cesspool, but from refreshing, flowing waters as in a cool mountain stream.  It’s Water that flows from the very Throne of God and can be given by none other than Jesus Christ.

A wonderful thing happened that day when the woman gave her testimony to the other Samaritans in her town.  If we look at verse 39 we can see that many Samaritans believed in Jesus after the woman told them that Jesus had told her everything that she had ever done.  It was all because of one Samaritan woman whose life was changed.  When she shared her testimony, other lives were also changed and the Living Water flowed into their lives as well. Her excitement was contagious!

You may have looked everywhere for joy trying to find it in one man or one woman after another. You may have tried to find fulfillment through different means such as alcohol, drugs, pornography and other things, but the kind of joy you are looking for will only come through knowing Jesus Christ, the Living Water.  Turn to Him today and receive the Living Water and have eternal life.

Prayer:

Father, I come to You today thanking you for Jesus, who is the Living Water and who gives us eternal life.  I pray for those who might not have the Living Water flowing into their lives but desire to draw from the wells of salvation.  Lord, I pray for every person who longs for Your presence to dwell within them but do not know what to do to have it.  Show them Your way Lord.  Bless them and help them in the Name of Jesus.  Amen.
