Gems of Truth

And ye shall know the truth, and the
truth shall make you free.

(John 8:32)

God speaks Truth from His Word. When we look at the gospels we can see where Jesus began many of His sentences with: “I tell you the Truth.”  It was essential that His hearers knew that what He had to say was indeed Truth.  In fact, it’s impossible for God to lie so we know we can trust Him with every aspect of our lives.  (Heb. 6:18; Gal. 1:20)

Many people will go out of their way to find Truth. Others will accept whatever is told never questioning. Some are not even interested in hearing the Truth found in God’s Word and live totally deprived.

As for me, my quest is for Truth and I refuse to accept anything less.  I believe what God’s Word says is Truth.  I have to admit that I’m passionate about it.  And in order to write what I feel God is speaking to my heart, I must seek Truth with all diligence knowing that it is backed up by Scripture.

In this message, we’re going to look at the lies Satan uses and then see the Truth God’s Word reveals refuting every lie of the enemy.  It was amazing once I began my study at how many lies of the enemy I saw.  Believe me, there were many, and some you may have already experienced yourself.  In fact, there were too many to list in this article.

Satan can use individuals to speak the lies he wants spewed out upon God’s people. It’s sad to say, but it can even be through false prophets or so-called ministers. Whatever the method, Satan shoots his fiery darts upon the children of God.  What can we do as Christians?  We must become aware of the enemy’s tactics and arm ourselves with our spiritual weapons.  From the time we become a newborn Christian, we must prepare ourselves for battle.  The Word says we must be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.  We need to know of the strategies our adversary may use against us just as the military would if it wanted to keep abreast of its enemy’s motives. (Mt. 10:16)

Satan’s tactics against us can be detrimental if we believe them.  Just as the unsaved, Christians can be just as deceived.  Jesus said in His own Words that Satan was the father of lies and there was no truth found in him, so we must be cautious at all times.  (Jn. 8:44)

Lies such as these will keep us from going forward for Christ.  In fact, some of these lies can make you feel so badly about yourself you can be hindered in your walk with the Lord. You also can become discouraged enough to want to give up.  If that’s happening to you, the enemy is doing his best to sow his seeds of doubt into your mind to discourage you.  Be free from it in Jesus’ name!  You do not have to listen and I encourage you to pray through it until you have the victory over your situation.  It would be best if you involve some godly people who will encourage you and intercede for you.

For you to understand how the enemy can work I’ll be completely transparent with you.  One day while I was studying my Bible a thought came and it went something like this: “The Bible isn’t completely correct.  Some of it is and some of it isn’t.”  I could have taken that thought and went for it, but realized it was the enemy trying to confuse me. We must be very careful because the enemy attacks our minds and can twist our thoughts to cause us to believe that it is God revealing something to us when, in fact, it’s the Deceiver trying to coerce us into believing a lie. If I had taken that thought and went with it, I would have become a very confused individual and continued to go downhill from there.  I am thankful that the Holy Spirit was present to lead me into all Truth.  (Jn. 16:13)

Eve believed what was spoken to her by the serpent which was anything but the truth.  Just as Eve, all of us have at one time or another believed Satan’s lies. Once we’ve become enlightened as to what has happened, we must turn from it immediately, ask God for forgiveness and then move forward. For those who have fallen for Satan’s antics, God isn’t mad at you. The solution is to pick yourself up, do an about face and not lose heart. Keep walking forward for Christ with all of your strength and never look back.  Ask God to help you refrain from believing another lie.  Begin learning God’s Word each day which will be your strongest weapon against the enemy. The more Word knowledge you have, the better off you’ll be toward seeing through another lie.  (Gen. 3:1-19; Col. 3:16)

Now, let’s look into some of those lies that I’ve been talking about.  First, I will give you the lie Satan may use against you.  Then secondly combat the lie with a Gem of Truth from God’s Word, sprinkled with some of the things I’ve learned throughout the years.

Enemy Lie Number 1:
A major lie Satan uses on the unsaved when conviction is strong upon their heart is:  “You’ve gone too far. Your sins are too many.  God cannot forgive you. You have too many skeletons in your closet.  There’s no hope for you.  Give up!”

Truth Gem No. 1:
God speaks from His Word and tells us, “As far as the east is from the west I will remove your sins.  I will be faithful and just to forgive you from all unrighteousness. Even though your sins are as scarlet I will make them white as snow.”  There is only one sin God will not pardon and that is sinning against the Holy Spirit. We can trust God to faithfully cleanse us from all unrighteousness and there is no doubting it.  (Is. 1:18; Ps. 103:12; 1 Jn. 1:9)

Enemy Lie Number 2:
Let’s consider another lie Satan uses on newborn Christians. He places uncertainty in their minds to make them believe their fresh experience with God isn’t real. The enemy doesn’t waste a moment in throwing his vicious seeds of unrest causing the newborn babes in Christ to wallow in discouragement.  Satan uses these tactics to cause these babes to give up before they actually get started.

Truth Gem Number 2:
If these babes in Christ believe these lies, it won’t be long before they’ll be back in the world doing just as they did before and sometimes worse.  When this happens, newborns need to call upon the name of the Lord because He will surely rescue them from this spiritual attack. But we must keep in mind that Jesus said those who look back will not be fit for the kingdom of God.  We’re to always be looking ahead and never looking back.  Helpful insight for the newborn is to immediately begin to study the Word of God and it would be helpful to begin in the book of John in the New Testament.  God’s Word will be a lamp unto their feet and a light unto their paths. Newborn babes in Christ also need immediate mentoring and discipleship by a trusted godly person who will lead them and pray with them.  It is always good to be involved in a church where the Word of God is taught from the pulpit and where Jesus Christ is exalted and preached.  The apostle Paul said he didn’t come with excellent speech but with declaring the testimony of God.  He determined not to know anything except Jesus Christ and Him crucified, and that is what is needed today in the church. (Ps. 18:48, 119:105; Luke 9:62; 1 Cor. 2:1-2)

Enemy Lie Number 3:
A lie of Satan is that if you surrender your life to God, your good times will be over.

Truth Gem Number 3:
The truth of this is you will just begin to live when you receive Christ as your Savior!  You will feel like a new person because that’s what you are, a new creation in Christ Jesus.  Some of the best times of my life have been spent since I began living for the Lord.  I can walk down the street and hold my head high because I belong to Christ and know I am on my way to heaven.  I can sleep peacefully at night knowing I am going with Jesus if He should come in the night.  Life takes on a whole new meaning when we begin to walk with Jesus every day.  As long as you have sin in your life, you are dead in your sins, but once you come to Christ, you become fully alive in Christ! Every Promise mentioned in God’s Word belongs to the Christian and those who have accepted Christ are joint heirs with Him.  Our eternal Home will be in heaven with the Lord for all eternity!  What better times are these?  (2 Cor. 5:17; Rom. 8:4; 16-17; Gal 5:16; 1 Thess. 4:17)

Enemy Lie Number 4:
Let’s look at another major lie of the enemy.  Satan wants us to believe that God doesn’t hear us when we pray?

Truth Gem Number 4:
God says in His Word that before you call, He will answer and while you are still speaking He will hear you.  If the Lord doesn’t hear us or care about our prayers then why are they so valuable they are stored in golden bowls in heaven?  Just as children’s words are precious to their parents, so are our conversations a precious treasure to our Heavenly Father.  Yes, God hears our every prayer and if you don’t believe it call on Him and see and He will be faithful to answer.  (Is. 65:24; Jn. 11:42; Rev. 5:8)

Enemy Lie Number 5:
The enemy wants you to think when you’re going through a trial that God won’t help you get through it.

Truth Gem Number 5:
Satan will do his best to keep you feeling as downcast as possible when you’re going through difficult times so you’ll feel totally helpless and without hope.  God says with Him nothing will be impossible.  He also says to cast your cares and burdens upon Him and He will sustain you.  He will carry you through the lowest valleys and over the highest mountains. God is your refuge and strength when you’re facing troubles.  He will surely be with you and will never forsake you or let you down.  (Luke 1:37; Jer. 32:27; Ps. 46:1-5; 55:22)

Enemy Lie Number 6:
Satan tries to keep God’s people from doing any type of work for God.  A lie of Satan may go something like this: “You can’t work for God because you’re too busy. You’re consumed with fear.  You’re going to fail.  You can’t teach a Sunday School class.  You can’t serve on the committee they’ve asked you about.  You can’t sing that song. You have nothing to offer because you’re not a perfect Christian.”

Truth Gem Number 6:
When discouraging thoughts such as these come, we must stand strong in order to be victorious for God and do the work He has called us to. God’s Word says, “Let nothing move you.” I love the way the Message Bible states it in 1 Corinthians 15:58:  “. . . dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for Him is a waste of time or effort.”  We need to have that kind of determination! As far as being a perfect Christian, there are none.  Every Christian is covered by the blood of Jesus and carried along by grace.  God’s grace will be sufficient to carry us through to do the work He has called us to do.  (Rom. 5:9; 2 Cor. 12:9)

Also, we can use the example Jesus set for us when He was tempted in the wilderness.  He used the Word of God which cast down every word the enemy twisted. The following Scripture can be used in defense against the enemy: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  (1 Cor. 15:58; Luke 4:1-13; Phil. 4:13)

Enemy Lie Number 7:
An infamous lie of the enemy is that God doesn’t love you.

Truth Gem Number 7:
First of all, God is love and His love reaches to the heavens.  God created us out of love.  He sent His Son to die for us and that alone spells love.  The cross had love written all over it when our Savior hung there with His blood spilling out upon the ground.  We are so special to God that He has our names inscribed on the very palms of His hands and we are His beloved workmanship. There is no way we can comprehend how great His love is for us because there is no width, length, depth or height to His love.  It goes beyond knowledge and comprehension.  Yes, God loves us with an everlasting love. (Ps. 36:5; 2 Cor. 5:13-15; Is. 49:16; 1 Jn. 3:16; Eph. 2:10; Eph. 3:17-19)

Enemy Lie Number 8:
The devil uses this one on all servants of the Most High God.  Satan doesn’t want God’s people to believe they’ll ever amount to anything. He loves to discourage you whether it be in the workforce or anything else you want to do.

Truth Gem Number 8:
God’s Word says, “I know the thoughts I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  I believe God’s Word comforts us and reveals that He wants the very best for us.  Our destiny is wrapped up with the Lord being on our side.  He’s got our backs!  God has great plans in store for the Believer who walks uprightly in His sight and they will not be forsaken.  Therefore, we will be blessed when we obey Him.  We will be promoted and advanced leaving others to wonder how it came to be.  God is on our side!  (Jer. 29:11)

Enemy Lie Number 9:
Satan works to spew his lies that there are many ways into heaven.

Truth Gem Number 9:
There is only one way into heaven and that way is through Jesus Christ and Him alone.  Jesus said, “I am the way, the Truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  (Jn 14:6)

Enemy Lie Number 10:
The enemy does his best to cause us to fear that God will not provide for us when tough times come.

Truth Gem Number 10:
God’s Word says He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and He will provide for us when we have needs. He will supply all of our needs according to His glorious riches by Christ Jesus. We’re not to be anxious for anything but by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present our requests to God.  God will surely provide for He cannot forsake His own.  (Phil. 4:6; 19)

Keep in mind there are many, many other lies the enemy would like for us to believe and I have touched only on the surface.  I trust this information has been beneficial to you.  If you’re like me, you look for helpful sources of information.

Now let us move forward never believing the lies the enemy speaks, but live a life of faith believing what God reveals in His Word.  Let us be strong against our adversary and pray we will see through every lie.  One thing about it, we can trust God, for His Word is Truth.

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me.  Friend, don’t get me wrong.  By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward – to Jesus. I’m off and running and I’m not turning back.

(Philippians 3:12-14 – The Message Bible)

Prayer:  Father, I come to you thankful for the message you’ve given.  As you well know, the enemy is working overtime to lie to us, but your Word is Truth and we can depend on it.  You will keep us in perfect peace because our mind will be stayed upon you.  I pray for every believer needing encouragement.  All of us have believed the lies of the enemy and sometimes we need someone to come alongside to spur us on to victory.  Help us be victorious in our walk with you.  Help us to keep our minds upon you, loving you, pleasing you and being a blessing to others.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
